Promote local policing and law enforcement practices that Reduces barriers to health care and social service access
VOCAL-Kenya’s work with law enforcement agencies is modeled around the Positive Policing Partnership (PPP), which aims to improve the health and quality of life of people who use drugs and other key populations.
VOCAL-Kenya's PPP program looks to remove factors that hinder access to health care and social services for people who use drugs. It involves positive engagement of the law enforcement officers and the public health sector with the community of people, as opposed to penalizing or stigmatizing them. VOCAL-Kenya engages high level law enforcement agents in sensitization and education in order to facilitate knowledge exchanging opportunities. This focuses on building and maintaining good relationships that benefit community members.
Our work continues to evolve and identify new advocacy opportunities to establish and support innovative civil society, policing and government collaborations to catalyze positive change in the drug user’s experience with operational policing. This is done through dialogue, policy interventions and actions, with the possible transition to the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion approach, informally and/or formally.
